Notice-
Name:
Syme
Location:
Airstrip One, Oceania
Status:
Unperson
Summary:
Syme was given the task of writing the Newspeak Dictionary and has finally fulfilled
his person. A master at doublethink, Syme was fully believed in what he was
writing while knowing that his work deteriorated humanity and further allowed
Indoc control. But he was intelligent. And due to his position, he had the
capacity to damage the reputation of Indoc immensely if his mind was twisted by
Goldstien and the Bortherhood. That is why he is no longer him. He was removed
quietly in the night, with no witnesses or obstacles. While searching his
apartment, no evidence of thoughtcrime was found but due to his capacity to
commit such crimes, measures were taken to ultimately silence him. No one has
mentioned his absence, as normal.

The final adjustments to the 15th
edition of the Newspeak dictionary are being done as we speak. Would you guess
the last words we just deleted? Realationship, family, and community. Crazy,
right?! Now anything that has to do with the relation between two humans or
objects is described as Indoc. Big Brother’s creation is now the summation of
the bond between humans. And that is highly accurate too. Big brother is
constantly in our midst, moderating and guiding our lives through his influence
over us… I mean we willingly involve him in our life to share in the joy he
created. That sounds better.
But
as I approach the last few moments of completion, I have contemplating what I
should do next. Where does a man trained to love language work once language is
destroyed? Will Big Brother carry me on to the Ficton Department perhaps? Maybe
I will get to work with the Pornosec.
Or
not, what if I have no purpose? What if I have reached my ultimate usefulness
and I am suddenly obsolete? The need to destroy words has been destroyed making
the destroyer of words destroyable. What if I can no longer be who I am?

Today, i was able to share a lunch with Winston
and spoke to him about what I was doing.
Winston
is an odd cat. I know he is a thoughtcriminal. He has that glint in his eye whenever
we talk about Big Brother and those at Indoc. I previously spoke to him about
the wonders of the war and how happy I was with the power we have but he just
sat there emotionless. The only thing he could possible do worse is actually
curse big brother and to rebuke his actions. He will be vaporized for sure.
Anyways,
back to the conversation. I spoke to him about the new dictionary I was making.
It is a wondrous thing. I was reading about the olden days and I began to
realize that half o the words that they used wouldn’t even be able to be
communicated thanks to me. Shakespeare, Plato and many other’s works are now
deemed useless unless we want to change the actual content of the
conversations. I always did think Romeo and Juliet would be better with a
Oceanian and a Eastasian. Anyways, I encouraged him to study his words before
2050 hits. He doesn’t want to be deemed a thoughtcriminal.
Hi. My name is Syme. As an indroduction to this blog, I
wanted to tell you all a few things about me and my past and why words fascinate
me so. I grew my entire life under the careful watch of big brother and in the
security of living in Oceania. I always was a step above the rest of my
classmates and comrades. Especially anytime we learnt about language. I have a
severe interest in words and the power they contain. Words have the ability to
communicate, influence, insult and persuade. Honestly, oldspeak was only
inhibited by the intelligence of the one speaking. But now, that has changed.
It is now my job to inhibit these words. It was becuause of this that I am now
working with Indoc to minimize the amount of words in our language in order to
prevent thoughtcriminals from speaking of, or eventually thinking of, the hate,
disdain or even evil they are trying to create. There is beauty in destroying
words in order to create new ones. As you read this blog, I hope you begin to
share the fascination and power words contain. Be sure to explore the side bars
for popular new newspeak words and their proper use. Remember, full integration
by 2050.
